2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS). Established in the aftermath of the Canal Hotel bombing in Baghdad, the General Assembly created UNDSS to strengthen and unify the United Nations Security Management System. Over two decades, it has grown and adapted to support the Organization and its partners in delivering results, including in some of the world’s most complex and high-risk environments.
