Aid Worker Security Database (AWSD)

The Aid Worker Security Database (AWSD) records major incidents of violence against aid workers, with incident reports compiled from 1997 through the present. Initiated in 2005, the AWSD remains the most comprehensive and rigorous source of open data on aid worker violence, providing the empirical evidence base for analysis of the changing security environment for aid operations.

Statistics provided by the AWSD have formed the basis of major international studies as well as briefing papers and trend analyses produced every year by Humanitarian Outcomes’ AWSD Research Team.

AWSD figures and analysis have been extensively cited in official reports and statements by the United Nations, non-governmental organisations, governments, and by a wide range of media outlets.

Please note that any use of AWSD data or analysis should include a full reference as follows: "Humanitarian Outcomes (year), Aid Worker Security Database, aidworkersecurity.org"
