Aid Worker Security Report 2026 – When the threat is the state: Detentions of humanitarian workers

This year’s Aid Worker Security Report presents the latest verified statistics on violence and other major security incidents affecting aid workers worldwide, with data drawn from the Humanitarian Outcomes Aid Worker Security Database (AWSD). In addition to the global update on data trends, this edition focuses on the growing phenomenon of aid worker detentions by state actors, informed by 29 key informant interviews and numerous other consultations with humanitarian practitioners and security experts over the past year.
